Deputy Minister for Policy and Programs Meets with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy
Mr.Abdul Rahman Qanit, Deputy Minister for Policy and Programs of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, met with Hamid Qanbari, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Ali Riza Bikdeli, Ambassador of Iran to Kabul on October 6, 2026.
In this meeting, both sides discussed and exchanged views on strengthening good-neighborly relations, investment opportunities in the mining sector, the Herat–Mazar-e-Sharif railway, and the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.
In his remarks, the Deputy Minister for Policy and Programs said that the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has created a conducive investment environment for domestic and foreign investors, and Afghanistan possesses vast mineral resources, of oil and gas. He called on Iranian investors to take advantage of investment opportunities in these sectors.
He further emphasized that the agreements signed between Afghanistan and Iran during the visit of Mr. Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, should be implemented to pave the way for further expanding cooperation between the two countries and prevent delays in future cooperation.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy described Afghanistan as a good neighbor and highlighted the longstanding relations between the two countries. He said that Iran is ready to further strengthen its relations with Afghanistan to expand cooperation in the economic, mining, and other sectors.
