Herat Salt Mine Extraction Contract Signed

Mr. Hedayatullah Badri, Minister of Mines and Petroleum, on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, signed the contract for the extraction of the first block of Salt Mine, located in the Namaksar area of Ghoryan District, Herat Province, with Ismail Shirzad Azizi Mining Extraction and Processing Company. The contract covers an area of (10,24114) square kilometers, with the total investment of (315594000) AFN.
During the contract signing ceremony, the Minister highlighted the significance of the project and said that the extraction contract for the aforementioned block has been awarded for a period of 15 years, with a royalty rate of (1500) AFN per ton. He further emphasized that the contracting company is obliged to carry out all its activities in full compliance with the Mining Law, relevant procedures, and the commitments stipulated in the contract, with full transparency and accountability.
It is worth noting that, in addition to the payment of royalty, the company has committed to, invest (5000000) AFN in various social services. The company will also fulfill its commitments about environmental protection. Furthermore, the implementation of this project is expected to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for the people of Afghanistan.
